- How can I book the jam box?
- Come to a meeting and/or open hours to get to know the space, get information about how to access the space after hours, and how to sign up for a time slot.
- You’ll have to become a member and sign the member agreement which you can read here. There are printed out copies at the space for you to sign when you come in.
- How much does it cost?
- $15 per jam spot of 2hrs.
- It’s so affordable because we all do a lot of volunteer work to keep the space up and running. Everyone who uses the space is asked to attend at least 1 meeting per year, and contribute in other ways at least 2 times per year (ie by cleaning up the jam room, helping with a fundraiser show, taking out the garbage, etc).
- When can I jam?
- Anytime that there isn’t anything else planned in the space that requires quiet (check the calendar) — all day and all night (with the exceptions below)….
- If there is a meeting or gathering in the front area of the space it might be ok to jam if your band isn’t super loud. We are still figuring this out so it’ll be a bit of trial and error.
- It is NOT ok to jam during public events, workshops, meetings in the back of the mainroom (where inkstorm/the stage is), etc.
- If a public event that requires no jamming is proposed for a time that you are booked, we MAY ask you to reschedule your jam.
- NO jams during 12:30-2:30 Mon-Fri (nap time at the daycare that we share walls with) – we gotta do some sound tests tho cus since its in the basement, maybe its ok?
- Check the calendar for available spots: https://www.radstorm.org/calendar/
- How do I sign up for a jam spot on the calendar.
- Go to https://www.radstorm.org/calendar/.
- Use the drop down menu under “calendar” on the title bar and choose “Create Event”
- Enter the password (we will give you this when you become a member)
- Make sure you put the following info in the booking:
- Your band name (the actual one, not just a made up thing) and write JAM in the title of your booking
- Your name and contact info (either email address or phone number – the easiest way for you to be contacted)
- Location: Jambox
- Times start and finish – please limit to 2hr jam slots
- How often/long can I jam for?
- Time slots are for 2 hours.
- You can request a longer slot for recording or other special purpose.
- How do I access the space?
- There is a code lock on the front door. Each member gets their own personal code. Codes are for individuals, not whole bands, so either one bandmate is the official member or other bandmates can also become members to get their own code. The code lock tracks when the codes are used, so if there is a problem in the space we can see who accessed the space and when.
- What gear is available to use? Is anything off limits?
- There’s amps, cables, mics, mic stands, guitars, drum kit, PA. The guitars and drum breakables & drum sticks can sometimes be in rough shape, so suggested that you bring your own. If there is something in the jam box with someone’s name on it, then please ask that person first before using it.
- How do I pay?
- Etransfer radstormhalifax@gmail.com for jam fees (write in the message section your band name and what the money is for)
- Put cash in an envelope and label it with what you are paying for and put it in the blue lockbox on the wall between the washroom and kitchen area. Do not put large amounts in the box. Etransfer instead.
- Thanks for paying! It’s honour system around here and it’s all pay-what-can. No-one will track you down to ask you to pay, but without people paying we can’t pay rent, then the space will have to close 🙁
- Is there storage space for gear?
- Don’t store personal things in the jambox. We don’t have space for storage and the intent is for everything in the jambox to be shared. If you are storing something for a short period of time, make sure you label it with your name and phone number and whether it is ok or not for other people to use it. Items without labels will be assumed to be for collective use.
- What else do I need to know?
- For general rules, no drugs, no alcohol, no jerks. Be respectful and clean up your messes. The space is collectively run and maintained, so everybody needs to pull their weight. Come to meetings or speak up on the email list to help out!
- Check out our code-of-conduct!
